Rap legend Missy Elliott and her label Atlantic Records are set to receive an honor from the National Museum of African-American Music. The prestigious recognition will occur at the museum’s “Celebration of Legends” event in Nashville on June 2.

Sylvia Rhone, chairwoman/CEO of Epic Records, will represent Atlantic Records at the event, reflecting her long-standing collaboration with Elliott since their time at East West Records. This tribute acknowledges Elliott’s influential three-decade music career and significant impact on the industry.

The National Museum of African-American Music will pay tribute to the Virginia-bred artist, an iconic figure in rap music, during its “Celebration of Legends” event. This esteemed recognition spotlights Elliott’s remarkable contributions to the music industry. 

Atlantic Records & Sylvia Rhone’s Role

Atlantic Records will also be honored alongside Missy Elliott. Rhone’s association with Elliott traces back to her tenure as senior vice president and general manager of Atlantic Records in 1986. Together, they worked on numerous successful projects that have left a lasting impact on the music landscape.

Special Guest Appearance By Mya

R&B singer Mya is expected to appear at the “Celebration of Legends” event. Mya collaborated with Missy Elliott on the 2001 remake of “Lady Marmalade” for the film Moulin Rouge

Elliott’s exceptional production skills elevated the song to great success, further cementing her influence in the industry.

Missy’s Previous Achievements 

Missy Elliott was previously honored by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, solidifying her status as a groundbreaking artist. Her remarkable impact on the hip-hop scene, alongside acts like A Tribe Called Quest, earned her a well-deserved nomination. 

Additionally, the Recording Academy recently recognized the Supa Dupa Fly artist, further affirming her extraordinary contributions to the music world.
