Erica Mena recently sat down for a revealing interview with Carlos King, stirring up a buzz among fans. She discussed her involvement in DJ Envy’s infidelity, her time on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, and her relationship with ex-husband Safaree.

Erica Mena Opens Up

On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Erica Mena opened up about her affair with DJ Envy, her time on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, her ex-husband Safaree, and the aftermath that left her feeling used and betrayed during an interview with Carlos King.

The conversation then shifted to her 2013 affair with The Breakfast Club host DJ Envy, revealing that she was unaware of his marriage until his wife called her. The VH1 reality star recounted the lavish lifestyle Envy provided, showering her with money, gifts, and extravagant trips.

However, the relationship took a turn when Envy pleaded with Mena to keep their affair a secret, fearing his wife would take everything if she found out.

“I called him and he insisted that I didn’t say anything. That night I was thrown off. We didn’t even meet up with him. A couple of days later I’m getting blown up and people are like ‘Envy’s on air dogging you out.’”

She continued to say:

“ I started to fall for this man. I spent a lot of time with him. This man done flew me and all my friends out to Miami. We were living our best lives up and down New York City, holding hands. We were very public. Proudly.”

King inquired if Mena and DJ Envy had regular conversations and if she believed throughout that period that Envy was exclusively committed to her. Mena answered:

“ Yeah. He would be at home dj’ing for the radio and I would be on FaceTime on the phone watching him in his house, hearing the kids upstairs. So I didn’t think anything of it until that point.”

In addition, Carlos King also asked whether DJ Envy’s wife had reached out to Mena. The LHHATL star then followed up with a reenactment of the phone conversation:

“ ‘Hi this is Gia Casey is this Erica Mena? Are you and Rayshaun’ I’m like Rayshaun? Who’s this? ‘His wife.’”

During the interview, when asked how she met Envy, Mena explained that it was through a mutual friend at the Jersey Girls strip club, where he was a DJ. She clarified that she was hosting an event that night, which led to their initial meeting.

King then asked, “So how did it end?” Mena then recalled how Envy went on air to confess that he had cheated on somebody with someone who was “beneath him.” She continued:

“ But why run me through the mud when you knew I didn’t know?”

Mena Addresses Hate Rumors

Later in the interview, Carlos King suggested that there are people who believe Mena’s son, King doesn’t like her and may even be embarrassed by her as his mother. Mena cuts in and clears the air:

“That’s the narrative because of him not wanting to be on TV. If anybody knows how to raise them with all these insane unnecessary topics that they’re having to be forced to deal with and yet their supposed to still be outside playing, please hand it to me. Because, I may not always be his favorite because I’m just like ‘ you’re not gonna make certain decisions till you’re old enough.’ Kids don’t wanna hear it especially when they’re old enough. When you have a kid that’s extremely smart , he’s like to debate with me a lot.”

The conversation then shifted to Mena’s time on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, where she discussed how she was discovered, some of her biggest influences, and not being able to save her reputation.

Carlos delved into Erica Mena’s rise to fame through Love & Hip Hop, specifically mentioning her debut in Season 2 of Love & Hip Hop New York. He recounted her introduction during a gathering with several other cast members, including Yandy, Chrissy, Kimbella, Emily, and Olivia.

Mena then explains how her montage was picked up by Mona Scott.

She then gave credit to VH1 stars Emily B. and Evelyn Lozada for paving the way for her to even be cast in VH1’s Love & Hip Hop franchise. Additionally, she explained how Scott needed The Breakfast Club plug badly so Mena wasn’t allowed to tell her side of the story regarding the DJ Envy infidelity situation.

How Did Erica And Safaree Come To Be?

The interview concluded with Mena discussing her initial negative impression of Safaree, who eventually won her over through persistence and courtship. Carlos King then swings the conversation to Safaree where he asks Mena:

“What was it about Safaree that you just weren’t instantly attracted to?”

Mena instantly answered:

“ I just knew he was like player. He reeked it. The first time I seen Safaree he was with someone I would always see around L.A. He was with a girl that I knew of and right then and there she introduced me and he was like ‘ you are so beautiful’, in front of her.And right then and there I was like ‘ oh this is disrespectful. This man is literally praising me on how beautiful I am in front of this woman that he’s actually with.”

When asked what made her finally give in, Mena answered:

“It took a long time. A long long time. This man had to go through my friends, family. He definitely pulled out all the stops. He actually would speak to my friends, manager, certain family members more than me because at that time its like if he would text me I would send back an emoji or not even reply at all. So he actually went after me but not through me. He courted me for three years.”

Brown Table Talk

Fans on YouTube have reacted to this interview in concern that she may only be doing this in order to take the heat off of her recent national brawl and colorist and racist remarks with Spice.

One user commented,“ I don’t care how well she did in this interview, she’s still a mean to her core, vindictive, nasty attitude & will never take accountability. She’s already shown who’s the real Erica Mena! No passes given here Ms. Mena!” Another user commented: “ Erica was dealt a bad horrible hand at life, but she’s disingenuous. I think she wants the public to forget the monkey term and we won’t but get therapy.”

In a recent roundtable discussion, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta cast members examined the Spice and Erica Mena incident, where the reality star called her Jamaican co-star a “blue monkey,” sparking dialogue on race and colorism. Mena’s response after the incident ignited further conversation and debate on these important topics.
