Today marks the long-awaited announcement of the 2024 Grammy nominations, which kicked off at 10:45 a.m. ET and was livestreamed on both YouTube and the Grammy website.
The lineup of presenters for the event is nothing short of star-studded, with renowned names such as Jon Bon Jovi, Kim Petras, St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy, and “Weird Al” Yankovic set to grace the stage. The show’s presenters will also include Vince Gill, Jimmy Jam, Samara Joy, and more, alongside the CBS Mornings co-hosts Gayle King, Nate Burleson, and Tony Dokoupil.
With the livestream now concluded, it is clear the recording academy has a lot to celebrate, with a wide breadth of styles and artists to be recognized. boygenuis are up for awards in multiple categories, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rock Song, Best Alternative Music Performance and Best Alternative Music Album. Billy Strings is also nominated in three areas: Best Bluegrass Album, Best American Roots Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
Some interesting categories include the Best New Artist Grammy (Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, The War and Treaty, Noah Kahan and Victoria Monét), Best Rock Album (Foo Fighters, Greta Van Fleet, Metallica, Paramore and Queens of the Stone Age), Best Folk Album (Dom Flemons, The Milk Carton Kids, Joni Mitchell, Nickel Creek, Old Crow Medicine Show, Paul Simon and Rufus Wainwright), Best Alternative Music Album (Arctic Monkeys, Boygenius, Lana Del Rey, Gorillaz, and PJ Harvey), and Best American Roots Song (The War and Treaty, Billy Strings, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Brandy Clark/Brandi Carlile and Allison Russell).
Allison Russell has been nominated in four categories: Best American Roots Performance, Best Americana Performance, Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Album. Tyler Childers also received four nominations, for Best Country Album, Best Country Solo Performance, Best Americana Performance and Best Music Video. Jason Isbell is up for three Grammys: Best Americana Performance, Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Album. Jon Batiste has five noms: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best American Roots Performance and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Bettye LaVette received her 7th Grammy nomination for Lavette! in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category which also features Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton, Ruthie Foster, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Larkin Poe.
This year’s nominations come with some notable changes, particularly in the reduction of nominees in the big four categories from 10 to eight. Moreover, the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, and Songwriter of the Year Non-Classical awards have been shifted to the general field, promising a televised presentation rather than being part of the pre-show.
