Dear Mama is nominated in the “Best Music Film” category alongside other notable works such as Kendrick Lamar’s Live From Paris: The Big Steppers Tour, Lewis Capaldi‘s This Is How I’m Feeling, and posthumous releases from David Bowie and Little Richard. The docu-series follows the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni Shakur, who was a Black Panther activist.
This nomination for Dear Mama adds to the accolades the docuseries has already received.
It was previously nominated twice for an Emmy in the category of “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.” Additionally, Tupac continues to be commemorated through a street dedicated to his legacy in Oakland, California, aptly named “Tupac Shakur Way” by the City of Oakland.
In connection to the late rapper’s death, a suspect named Keefe D was arrested by Las Vegas police on September 29, 2023, for Shakur’s murder. Subsequently, on November 2, 2023, in Las Vegas, Davis entered a plea of not guilty.
