Drakeo the Ruler’s Family Seeks Damages

Drakeo The Ruler’s family is claiming that Live Nation, along with the venue and festival organizers, is responsible for the LA rapper’s stabbing death.

Drakeo, born Darell Caldwell, was stabbed backstage during the Once Upon A Time Festival held in LA this past December. The rapper’s brother, Devante Caldwell, also known as Ralfy The Plug, is claiming his brother’s murder could have been avoided.

The suit, filed by Devante and the LA-based rap group led by both brothers, alleges the concert promoters were negligent and did not have adequate security to keep the 28-year-old rapper safe. In documents obtained by TMZ, Devante claims Drakeo was attacked by a mob of 50 to 100 people, some of whom had knives, leaving Drakeo’s group to fight for their lives. Devante is also attesting the festival organizers failed to properly secure the venue and backstage despite knowing the high level of gang activity surrounding L.A.’s Exposition park where the concert was held.  Apparently, Drakeo was targeted by gang threats.

His family is suing Live Nation, which is also being sued for the tragedy at Travis Scott’s AstroWorld. They are also suing headliner Snoop Dogg and the Los Angeles football club that owns the stadium where the festival was held, The Banc of California.

Drakeo Never Made It To His Performance

The “Talk to Me” rapper never hit the stage at the Once Upon a Time Festival. Around 8:30 pm a fight broke out backstage and Drakeo was stabbed during the altercation. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Drakeo’s mother,  Darrylene Corniel, spoke with Rolling Stone about her son’s death. According to Corniel, Drakeo and his brother Ralfy the Plug were “swamped” by “like 40 to 60 people” around the same time that  LA-rapper YG arrived. “Everything just happened so quickly,” she said. “They started trying to jump them.” There is no evidence indicating that YG had anything to do with the altercation or the murder of Drakeo The Ruler.

Drakeo The Ruler’s 5-year-old Son Files Lawsuit

Tianna Purtue, the mother of Drakeo the Ruler’s five-year-old son, Caiden Caldwell, has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation on the minor’s behalf, claiming Live Nation was “completely knowledgeable of the potential dangers posed to both their guests and the performers they hired based on numerous past incidents.”  Over $60+ million is claimed in damages.
