Cardi B Wants Justice In Mysterious Death Of Black Woman

Cardi B addressed her 21.4 million Twitter followers about the case on Tuesday, which she says was being mishandled by police and mangled by the media.  According to reports, police still have not questioned the White man as a suspect.  The victim, Lauren Smith-Fields was black.

Smith-Fields was found dead in her home on December 12, 2021 – a day after a date with LaFountain, who she had met on the Bumble dating app.

Cardi B also addressed reports and commentary that insinuated Smith-Fields was dating a middle-aged man or senior citizen for money.  Matthew LaFountain, 37, is not much older than Smith-Fields, who was 23.

“Media made it seem like she was wit a old ass man lookin to trick on http://her,” said Cardi who is known to speak out on various social issues.  “I’m disgusted on how they spin the narrative specially because I see people saying online “that’s wat she gets.”

Smith-Fields’ family has filed a lawsuit against the Bridgeport police. They’ve also started a GoFundMe page to petition the public to help finance a private investigator.

Police have not treated LaFountain as a suspect, despite the fact that he was the last person to see her alive.

However, in new developments, Smith-Fields’ death is now being investigated as a crime, Bridgeport police said Tuesday. Officials said the department’s narcotics and vice division has opened an investigation and will be assisted by the US Drug Enforcement Administration.  Previous to this, a medical examiner ruled Smith-Fields death was accidental and caused by “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl, promethazine, hydroxyzine and alcohol.”
