NEWS: DEADLETTER frontman Zac Lawrence shares solo single ‘Man Overboard’ and announces upcoming album

Today Zac Lawrence the lead singer of post-punk outfit, DEADLETTER, shares a stunning stripped-back solo track ‘Man Overboard’ and announces debut album The Hate – set for release on 1st December 2023.

Inspired by classic American singer-songwriters of 60s/70s like Towns Van Zandt and Bob Dylan,Man Overboard’ serves up an intimate blend of intimate lo-fi harmonies and acoustic guitars with Lawrence’s rich deep Jim Morrison like vocals softened by melodic reflections and literary inspirations. It’s a lush radio- ready track and certainly adds another dimension to the singer’s impressive repertoire. Zac said,

“If DEADLETTER is me howling at the moon in a far away valley, then this is me making small talk with a lamp in my bedroom.”

“I’d been re-reading the Grapes Of Wrath when writing this (hence the Steinbeck name check) and used the setting of depression-era America to emphasise the despair and abandonment that a drinking problem prompts.”

Recorded and mixed by Lawrence himself during 2020 and 2021, the ten songs that span debut solo effort The Hate embrace themes of love, vigilantism, isolation and self-destruction. While maintaining the characteristic social commentaries familiar from his work with DEADLETTER – and featuring band members Poppy Richler (Saxophone) and Alfie Husband (drums) on it’s recording – Lawrence’s solo work presents an altogether more home-spun musical palette:

The Hate album by Zac Lawrence is out 1st December.
