Rising Irish indie artist, Amy Ellen, weaves dream pop with 90s underground verve. The Dublin artist is currently living in the French Alps on the shores of Lake Geneva, a spot which she describes as “undeniably beautiful and inspiring everyday.” As a fan of Green Day, Broken Social Scene, Soccer Mommy and Kurt Vile, Amy’s latest track ‘Dead and Gone,‘ reflects those influences, merging jangly, gritty 90s slacker rock riffs with lush, mellifluous vocals.
Her previous single ‘Leave Me’ surpassed 20k streams on Spotify and has paved the way for a far grittier sound that’s developed more recently in Ellen’s material. ‘Dead & Gone‘ builds on that momentum as she reveals another captivating shoegaze track straight out of her studio in France. ” Amy’s first output from her home studio and its immediacy is captured succinctly on a track that opens in an ethereal Mazzy Star style” – The Goo
In her latest track, the hazy gauze of swirling riffs wraps around the listener taking them on a triumphant breezy road trip that could soundtrack the apex of an indie film. With pounding bass lines punctuate her honeyed vocals as the slanted melodies dance over a bed of undulating riffs. The darker edges woven into ‘Dead and Gone‘ only makes the lights shine brighter in this soaring indie anthem. Listen here:
Her dynamic vocals are as lush as her homeland, layered over undulating biting riffs as jagged and multi faced the Alps themselves. It’s that juxtaposition of gritty riffs capped with the snow-white purity of the vocals that makes it so enthralling. Noting Santigold, Fazerdaze and Blondie as influences, the punchy drums and basslines form a soaring bed for Ellen’s honeyglazed vocals to float over.
Amy shares “For me the guitar and vocal riff were the selling point when writing ‘Dead & Gone’ “It has an innocence to it, as if you were singing along to the intro of your favourite TV show as a Kid (or an Adult!). We had been sitting on the song for awhile, gigged it and felt there was more to add. Eventually getting back into the studio this summer we re-recorded a finalised version of it, the next step was to release it as soon as possible.”
