Last night, boygenius brought their rocking energy to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, marking their final scheduled performance of 2023. The supergroup comprised of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julian Baker–in costume as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, respectively–performed favorites from their latest LP, the record, and including “Satanist” saw featured none other than Dave Grohl on drums.
The Halloween show saw the organic comradery and respect between the artists as they harmoniously flowed through haunting songs like “Emily I’m Sorry,” “Not Strong Enough,” and “Cool About It.” The show also saw songs from each of the band member’s solo discography, adding a balanced clarity to their individual and collective work.
boygenius‘ ability to simultaneously convey high-octane yet deeply emotive songs served as a lovely landing pad for Grohl’s playing. The Foo Fighters founder’s heavy hammering percussive energy brought the boygenius song to a new level, and the band members rode the sonic waves with ease thanks to the familiarity of their composition.
Notably, over the weekend, Grohl and Foo Fighters played two songs on Saturday Night Live, including “The Glass,” which saw a stunning addition from H.E.R.
