When comedian John Mulaney appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, keen listeners might have been jolted by his walk-out song: the title track off Bruce Hornsby’s latest studio output, Indigo Park. In a clip now shared by the iconic singer-songwriter, Mulaney gives Hornsby his flowers by way of high praise for the new record, which he emphatically called the “Best album of the year!”
The scene opens with Mulaney greeting the host before pointing a finger at a member of the program’s house band. The video finds the comedian asking keyboardist Jeff Babko if he received the “YouTubes I sent you of Bruce Hornsby?” Mulaney added a quick, “Yeah, they’re great,” before Kimmel brought the comment full circle, explaining that he discovered the set of music through a post on Babko’s Instagram.
Mulaney then took a moment to clarify their exchange with a definitive declaration: “Bruce Hornsby has a new album out called Indigo Park. Best album of the year!”
Before Kimmel could pivot to another topic, Mulaney announced, “Also, June 16-17, live at the Troubador, Bruce Hornsby. I can’t attend, but you should.” As a rhetorical response, Kimmel quipped, “You’re touring so much, you’re plugging other people’s shows.”
