Today, Sublime with Rome declared a pivotal shift in the trajectory of the group’s journey. Rome Ramirez, the frontman and driving force behind Sublime with Rome revealed his departure from the band, marking the end of an era set to conclude in 2024.
Ramirez expressed his sentiments about the imminent change, stating, “After almost two remarkable decades, I am announcing my departure from Sublime with Rome at the close of 2024. The upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect on countless incredible memories together! Over the last 2 years, I’ve been spending countless hours pouring my soul into my solo music, and the excitement to share these songs with you is building up! I’ve got some really big news that I can’t drop yet. Just wait! Singing and playing guitar for this iconic band has been a lifetime opportunity and just flat out, absolutely epic. Carrying on the Sublime legacy has been a trust I’ll forever cherish. This is only the beginning…”
Sublime with Rome was formed in 2010 by Ramirez and Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, 14 years after the death of Bradley Nowell. After his passing, one of Sublime’s managers, Jason Westfall, said, “The surviving members had no interest in continuing to perform and record under the Sublime name” and “Just like Nirvana, Sublime died when Brad died.”
Thankfully, Sublime with Rome kept the heart and soul of Sublime alive and well over the past two decades, reviving Sublime’s catalog and releasing their debut album, Yours Truly, on July 12, 2011. Since then, they’ve continued to honor their Long Beach, Calif., sound, releasing 2019’s Blessings with singles “Wicked Heart” and “Light On,” headlining shows in sheds, amphitheaters, and major festivals worldwide, including a tour with Incubus.
More recently this year, the band collaborated with Slightly Stoopid on Cool & Collected, the first release from both groups in several years, culminating in a joint summer tour across 27 cities. As the band prepares for the next chapter, they officially welcomed their new drummer, Cleveland-based Joe Tomino of Dub Trio.
