In what promises to be an epic farewell, The Eagles have announced they are gearing up for their last tour, aptly titled The Long Goodbye. The iconic rock band will hit the road for a series of 13 concert dates, accompanied by the esteemed fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Steely Dan. Spanning multiple years, the tour is expected to conclude in 2025.
Kicking off at New York City’s legendary Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7 of this year, The Eagles and Steely Dan will grace arenas in Boston, Newark, N.J., and Belmont Park, N.Y. throughout the month. The band has also announced October shows in Denver, Indianapolis, Detroit, and Cleveland, as well as November stops in Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Lexington.
The Eagles, led by co-founding member Don Henley, will be joined by longstanding members Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, along with more recent additions Vince Gill and Deacon Frey. Both Gill and Frey came aboard in 2017, following the untimely passing of Deacon’s father and Eagles’ co-founder, Glenn Frey. Although Deacon Frey departed the band in 2022, he has returned to the fold for “The Long Goodbye.”
Expressing their deep appreciation and love, The Eagles penned a heartfelt note to their fans, acknowledging the band’s extraordinary 52-year journey. Despite enduring tragic losses, upheavals, and setbacks, the group recognizes the unwavering support of their dedicated management team, road crew, and talented backup musicians throughout the years. Grateful for their remarkable run, The Eagles have decided that the time has come to bring the journey full circle with an official farewell tour. Scheduling details will be announced as dates are confirmed, considering the challenges of securing venues for multiple nights, which may result in return visits to certain cities based on demand. The band intends to make this final round a memorable experience for as many fans as possible as they bid farewell. They also extend their heartfelt gratitude to their fans for embracing their music, acknowledging that their enduring success over five decades is owed to the unwavering support of their devoted audience. While this may be their swan song, The Eagles made it clear in their letter that they believe that the power of their music will continue to resonate for years to come.
Originally disbanding in 1980, The Eagles surprised fans with a reunion in 1994 for the Hell Freezes Over tour and album. Following Glenn Frey’s passing in January 2016, Don Henley hinted at the band’s retirement from touring during interviews. However, in July 2017, The Eagles regrouped with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey stepping in to fill the void left by Glenn Frey, and they have since embarked on sporadic tours.
With over two years remaining for The Long Goodbye, fans can anticipate more tour date announcements in the near future. Stay tuned for updates on this monumental farewell tour from The Eagles.
