Grambling State University conferred upon E-40 an honorary degree on May 12, recognizing his remarkable contributions to music and his entrepreneurial achievements. The “Tell Me When To Go” rapper took to Instagram to express his joy, sharing the news with his followers and expressing his humility.
He also delivered a speech during the ceremony, expressing his gratitude to the university for molding him into the man and entrepreneur he has become. Reflecting on his upbringing in Vallejo, California, he expressed pride in his journey from Magazine Street to receiving such an esteemed honor.
E-40’s Connection To Grambling State University
Although E-40 attended Grambling State University in 1986, he left after one year to pursue his rap career. However, his ties to the institution remained strong.
As a testament to his commitment, the California native donated $100,000 to Grambling’s music department, establishing a recording studio named after him. This act of generosity further demonstrates E-40’s dedication to supporting educational opportunities and nurturing aspiring musicians.
In another collaboration, E-40 joined West Coast rap legends Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and others to form the Mount Westmore rap group. The group released an album on December 9, 2022.
Ludacris & Missy Get Honorary Degrees
E-40 is not the only rapper to receive an honorary degree. Ludacris was also presented with an honorary degree from Georgia State University. Similarly, music icon Missy Elliott received a doctorate from Norfolk State University.
