This evening Bruce Springsteen will kick off a three-night stand at RDS Arena in Dublin, Ireland, with performances rolling out on May 5, 7 and 9. Before this arrival at the 20,000-capacity venue, The Boss dropped by a local Irish pub on Thursday, May 4, and casually delivered lines from his 1984 tune “My Hometown.”
The impromptu performance took place at The Burrow in Rathangan, Co. Kildare, the village where Springsteen’s ancestors hailed from. With a drink in his hand, the 73-year-old music giant tapped the wooden bar top while gently running through the iconic lyrics: “To the bus stop to pick/ Up a paper for my old man/ I’d sit on his lap in that big old Buick/ And steer as we drove through town.”
A small group of patrons gathered around Springsteen as he embraced the Born in The U.S.A. track. As the artist reached the chorus, the folks watching joined in and collectively sang, “This is your hometown.” He concluded the ditty by telling the crowd, “You guys, I’m firing the E Street Band, and I’m hiring you.” Watch below.
