A trio of well-seasoned sidemen, LaMP consists of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger alongside drummer Russ Lawton and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski from the Trey Anastasio Band. Their self-titled and self-released debut demonstrates that LaMP has already mastered a tightly locked-in groove business you can imagine hearing on Frenchmen Street every Saturday night for the rest of your life. Metzger and Paczkowski toss ideas back and forth with gleeful abandon as Lawton shuffles powerfully underneath. The album’s a refreshingly economical spin that splits the difference between Lawton and Paczkowski’s duo project Soule Monde and Metzger’s other trio, Wolf!
