Greenwich Town Party Brings NOLA to New England (A Gallery)

On Saturday, May 27, the annual Greenwich Town Party took place under the glorious backdrop of perfect sunny skies and the cool ocean waters of the Long Island Sound. The all-day event brought together a diverse lineup of talented musicians, united in highlighting the musical spirit of New Orleans, including Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mavis Staples, The Revivalists, and a headlining Super Jam led by the iconic Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Notably, it was the surprise guests and the stunning tribute by Irma Thomas that stole the show.

The festivities kicked off with the infectious sounds of Dirty Dozen Brass Band, setting the energetic tone for the day. As the crowd grooved to their soulful tunes, anticipation grew for the rest of the lineup. Mavis Staples, the legendary soul and gospel singer, graced the stage next, captivating the audience with her powerful vocals and inspiring presence. The Revivalists took the energy to new heights with their electrifying performance, leaving the crowd eager for more.

The highly anticipated Super Jam, featuring the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, took the event to another level. As the band took their positions on stage, excitement filled the air. The Super Jam was a true celebration of musical jubilation and connection, featuring an impressive roster of surprise guests who joined in on the magic: Irma Thomas, known as the Soul Queen of New Orleans, delivered a breathtaking tribute to the late Tina Turner with a soulful rendition of “Simply The Best.” The crowd was mesmerized by Thomas’ powerful vocals and her heartfelt homage to one of music’s greatest icons. Other artists who joined in on the Super Jam included Trombone Shorty, George Porter Jr., Cyril Neville, Ivan Neville, Wyclef Jean, Celisse, Tarriona “Tank” Ball, Eric Krasno, Raymond Weber, Tony Hall, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Erica Falls, and Harry Connick Jr. The stage was ablaze with talent as each artist brought their unique flair to the performance.

As the day drew to a close, the Greenwich Town Party left an indelible mark on all who attended. The combination of perfect weather, exceptional musical talent, and surprise guest appearances made for an unforgettable experience.
