Daze Between New Orleans Details Relix Talks Daily Musical Conversations

Today, Daze Between New Orleans announced it will be hosting two special conversations titled Relix Talks during its event set to take place at New Orleans’ historic Faubourg Brewery during the days between New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival weekends on Tuesday, May 2, and Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

The gathering, presented by Dayglo Presents, Live For Live Music, GMP Live, Purple Hat Productions and Rose Tours, and headlined by Connecticut-bred jamband Goose, will welcome a panel on Tuesday, May 2, titled Help on the Way: The Legacy of the Grateful Dead and Their Grassroots Charitable Mission, moderated by Relix editor-in-chief Dean Budnick, featuring the Executive Director of the Rex Foundation (and former Grateful Dead manager) Cameron Sears and Soulive’s Eric Krasno. The event will also see musical performances by New Orleans’ own Tank and the Bangas, New York-bred soul-pop group sibling duo Lawrence, another New York City export Melt, along with adored local acts J & The Causeways and The Quickening.

The following day on Wednesday, May 3, Daze Between New Orleans will host an engaging conversation called New Orleans Festival Express: Examining What Makes Festivals in New Orleans so Special; the panel will feature The Revivalists’ David Shaw, Neal Francis, Eggy’s Jake Brownstein and Reed Mathis. This conversation will be moderated by Relix editor-in-chief Mike Greenhaus. Musical appearances along with Goose set for May 3 include the aforementioned Shaw, Francis, The Meters bassist and New Orleans legend George Porter Jr. and his Runnin’ Pardners, the rest of Eggy and local ensemble the Honey Island Swamp Band.

Last year’s inaugural event was headlined by The String Cheese Incident over two nights and featured a bill with Snarky Puppy, Lettuce, Eric Krasno & Friends and more. The event also saw high-profile sit-ins from surprise special guests like Billy Strings.

“Daze Between New Orleans is starting to become an annual tradition,” said Live for Live Music founder Kunj Shah. “It’s a remarkable event anchored by Jazz Fest, colored with incredible music and delicious food, in a beautiful venue. New Orleans is ingrained in the fabric of everything we do at Live For Live Music, and to be able to put on an event that gives back to this city that has given the world so much culture is an honor.”

Along with the joy the event will bring to music lovers, Daze Between New Orleans will bring further elation to the community by donating proceeds to New Orleans-based nonprofit organizations via the Rex Foundation, a non-profit organization created in 1983 by the Grateful Dead family and friends. The funds will be raised through ticket sales on-site, an auction featuring coveted items, experiences from artists on the lineup, New Orleans and Grateful Dead-themed artwork, memorabilia and more.

Purple Hat Productions’ Paul Levine added, “Since I started coming to Jazz Fest in 1999, the ‘Daze Between’ Jazz Fest weekends have always been some of my favorite days to be in New Orleans. Together with my partners L4LM and GMP Live we have been throwing special late-night shows on these days for many years. It’s our way of giving back to the city and culture that has inspired us all in our lives and careers. Working with Rex Foundation to help raise funds for multiple New Orleans charities is the culmination of these efforts and really the cherry on top.”

There will also be a curated artist village with works by local artisans and vendors, not to mention all the recently renovated Faubourg Brewery has to offer, from choice brews to incredible Louisana cuisine.
