Gymnast Nia Dennis + Brooklyn United Marching Band Take On Met Gala

Over the past few hours, social media has ignited with praise and co-signs from last night’s festivities. Dennis – who is well-known for signature Beyoncé and Black Lives Matter-themed floor moves at UCLA competitions – donned all-blue attire while leading the pack for the marching band.

Just after 5:30 p.m. ET, the star gymnast made her way through the Big Apple as the famed marching band provided her with the perfect soundtrack. Rocking a custom blue outfit, she shined as she moved through the air effortlessly. Not to be forgotten, the Brooklyn United Marching Band sported their own colorful boilersuits. Needless to say, they have stolen the show so far as Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer orchestrate the movements of the red carpet. (iHeart)

Media personality Kela Walker also hit up her social media pages to speak on how game-changing this year’s event was courtesy of Dennis and the band.

“The Culture ✊🏾 Kicks off the 2021 Met Gala WE ARE THE CULTURE. absolutely nothing moves without us. In all of my 7 years of covering the #metGala I ain’t never seen nothing like this on the iconic Carpet. Nia Dennis Reflects On An Epic Night

Dennis made sure to speak on last night’s festivities. She specifically reflected on her run from going viral on the Internet as a UCLA student to making headlines at the Met Gala.

When Dennis’s “Beyoncé routine” rippled across the internet, she felt the love but sensed people “didn’t necessarily understand that was Black culture.” Bringing her “full self” to the Met performance meant leaving no doubt. “This is how we have fun. This is how we perform. This is how we get crazy,” Dennis said. “This is Black entertainment.” (VOGUE)
