On Friday, May 1, Gov’t Mule delivered a memorable performance at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans. The concert served as the final stop of the band’s spring tour, marked by a collaborative spirit that defined the evening. Following guest appearances by Larkin Poe and Maggie Rose at previous tour dates, the group welcomed Jackie Greene to the stage for a significant portion of the show, culminating in a poignant tribute to the late Dave Mason.
Gov’t Mule opened their set with “Soulshine,” setting a tone that moved through mid-90s favorites like “Rocking Horse” and “Larger Than Life” before transitioning into the more recent “No Need to Suffer.” The band also showcased their versatility with “Gone to Long” and the John Scofield-penned “Hottentot.”
The energy shifted when Jackie Greene joined the ensemble. Together, they performed a rare cover of Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues,” a track that had not been played by the band since August 2023. The collaboration continued with a spirited rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Bertha,” featuring Greene on guitar and vocals.
Following the set break, the band returned to the stage to power through a sequence that included “Mule,” “Revolution Come, Revolution Go,” and “The River Only Flows One Way.” A highlight of the second set was the seamless transition between “Pass The Peas” and “Super Bad,” followed by “Lay Your Burden Down” and “Unring The Bell,” which featured a subtle tease of Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up.”
The evening concluded with an emotional encore. Jackie Greene returned to the stage to join the band in honoring the late Dave Mason, who passed away on April 19, 2026. The tribute featured a performance of Mason’s “Sad and Deep as You,” followed by a powerful rendition of the Traffic classic “Feelin’ Alright.”
