Mac Miller’s estate released ‘Good News’ last week, the first and only single taken off his upcoming posthumous album ‘Circles’.
Below we’ve listed a few of the most touching and heart-wrenching lyrics and moments from the new release.
‘I spent the whole day in my head’
Mac begins Good News with the lyric ‘I spent the whole day in my head’, which is a direct call-back to the companion albums opening track ‘Come Back To Earth’, where Miller recites ‘I just need a way out of my head, I’ll do anything for a way out of my head’.
I’m up 30 thou’ miles plus change
In the closing moments of ‘Good News’, what looks like Mac’s dog – Ralph – is sat in the passenger seat of Mac’s G-Wagon, without anyone in the drivers. Although you can see Mac looking back through the rear view mirror.
1992 til’ infinity
Mac’s G-Wagon collects different mementos relating to Mac in the ‘Good News’ music video, from ying-yang symbols (a logo frequently used in relation to ‘Swimming’) to the famous Pittsburgh ‘P’ (tattooed on Millers hand).
The score begins at 1992, Millers year of birth. Before hitting 2018, the year of his passing.
‘There’s a whole lot more for me waitin’ on the other side’
Following Mac’s passing, it’s difficult to interpret this lyric as anything but tragically eerie. No matter how Mac was intending this bar to come across when he wrote it, considering the circumstances it’s now a heart-rending, emotional moment in the record.
Swimming in Circles
The visual of Mac walking towards the same airplane window that’s pictured on the ‘Swimming’ album cover, is the perfect way to close out the record.
Dancin’ Mac
While the majority of the ‘Good News’ visuals make me sob uncontrollably, the clip of Mac dancing – and stumbling – is a beautiful moment in the video. There’s no reference here, nor is one needed.
