Melbourne based Zimbabwean-Australian R&B queen Thando recently came through with a sleek and powerful new cut (and video), Gag Order, the latest single taken from her upcoming EP Life In Colour.
Featuring fellow Zimbabwean Françoistunes, who delivers a verse thats as thoughtful and silky as ever, Gag Order is Thando’s own powerful expression of internal and black community monologues resulting from the systematic cultural assimilation and subsequent ostracism of black lives in her community.
“I intended for this song to be an anthem for the misfits of the world; for anyone who’s ever had to dull their shine to make others comfortable. Especially those who are misfits in a space they’re meant to claim ownership of,” says Thando on the tracks creation.
Life in Colour will feature some of Melbourne’s best Zimbabwean artists in a tribute to Thando’s heritage; including Françoistunes, neo-soul artist Kye, soul singer Ruva, and Zimbabwe-come-Melbourne hip-hop artist ZiiMusic.
The official video to Gag Order is out now, check it out below.
