Rising Sydney rapper Joey Maker has unveiled his first solo effort of 2019 in the form of the woozy, Hamley-produced Where They At.
The hypnotic new single has Maker sharply delivering succinct multi-syllabic rhymes over a booming bass line that has the production teetering between a sleek modern sound and an old school throwback vibe.
“It’s painful sometimes to sit and reflect on the ‘what ifs’ – the friends that you’ve drifted away from, the girls you could’ve married, the life you could have lived,” said Joey on the songs meaning.
“Where They At for me was sharing two of those stories, two people who were once very important in my life but I haven’t seen or heard from in years.”
Where They At is the first release from Joey Maker‘s forthcoming Young Anakin project, his debut solo EP – set for release this year.
