Este Haim of HAIM has been recruited as the executive music producer for an upcoming National Geographic limited series on the life story of Miep Gies titled A Small Light, set to premiere on May 1. The series will explore the life of Miep, a Dutch woman of Austrian descent who helped hide Anne Frank and her family in the attic of Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam from 6 July 1942 to 4 Aug. 1944 and later, retrieved Anne Frank’s diary with her colleague Bep Voskuijl.
“I can’t begin to express what an honor and a privilege it is to be a part of this series, especially as my first role as an EMP,” shared Haim. “Miep’s story is one of a modern woman standing up for what is right, and that should continue to inspire all of us. I am so thrilled to be able to help bring this to life through the power of music.”
Along with the executive music producer responsibilities, Haim will also release a collection of cover songs for the story titled A Small Light: Songs From the Limited Series. Each of the tracks are co-produced by the L.A.-based artist, and features include her sister Danielle Haim, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Kamasi Washington, Weyes Blood, Moses Sumney, and more. The collection will release on May 23 – a few days before its release; Ariel Marx will release her original score for the series on May 19.
After the premiere of A Small Light, two songs from the project will be released each week until the full release on May 23, starting with her sister’s cover of Doris Day’s “Till We Meet Again” and Washington’s rendition of “Cheryl” by Charlie Parker which will both release on May 5.
