Andy Frasco & the U.N.: Keep On Keepin’ On

“I wanted to write about this [issue of] mental health because this is important. People are dying in my music scene. I want to talk about how we can grow as a society. Life is too short to not understand who the fuck we are,” Andy Frasco says in a clip leading up to his new album Keep On Keepin’ On. The 11-track offering marks Frasco’s fourth studio release and first for the SideOneDummy label. It is also his most honest work to date, exploring his aforementioned struggles with mental health and using the format to showcase his songwriting, which also improves with every release. Of course, the U.N. bandleader is the first to admit that he’s still working on himself—as evidenced by “I’ve Got a Long Way to Go,” among others—and that’s perhaps the most refreshing part of Keep On Keepin’ On. Frasco’s internal tension between booze-chugging madman and self-effacing thinker is what makes his message of selfimprovement so relatable. And while the singer/keyboardist isn’t giving up his rowdy persona anytime soon—whether he’s crowd-surfing in a sold-out venue or dancing shirtless to ‘80s hits on his popular weekly livestream—Keep On Keepin’ On shows his softer side, with plenty of love (“Feel It in Our Bones”), optimism (“Better Day”) and slipups (“Good Man”) to spare.
