West Coast rap legend Snoop Dogg is breaking new ground in the gaming world alongside his son, Cordell Broadus. The father and son duo have established their own video game studio called Death Row Games, aiming to provide a platform for minority creators and artists.
Death Row Games To Develop For Fortnite
Death Row Games will be integrated with Death Row Records, giving underrepresented voices a chance to develop and publish their creations for popular game Fortnite, using its Unreal Editor.
Broadus explained to AFROTECH, “We’ve been creating games, but on a very amateur level. We’ve always had the mindset of building it on our own.” Adding to this, he expressed the significance of working with his father, highlighting their unique partnership and the opportunity to continue Snoop Dogg’s legacy in the gaming industry.
The younger Broadus spoke about keeping his dad current, stating, “I think it’s dope for a father and a son to be working together for one, and for two he’s 51 years old,” Broadus explained. “So he may be out of touch with some of these things. And I’m always there to keep him up to speed and translate information to him in a tone that he can understand. I think that’s more important… but just as much as I’m giving him game he’s given me the keys to make these decisions with a IP as big as his.”
Fans React to Snoop Gaming Venture
The announcement of Death Row Games has received positive reactions from fans and gaming enthusiasts. Users on X, a popular gaming platform, were enthused about the collaboration. Swankness on X expressed, “People f*ck with Snoop worldwide. This could be major,” while fan gorrilla_black commented “ Totally with this cause none of these orgs are signing black gamers. Like almost none of em.”
Snoop Dogg Releases NFTs
In addition to Death Row Games, Snoop Dogg made headlines by acquiring the iconic Death Row Records label and releasing music through NFTs. He also teamed up with blockchain gaming company Gala Games for the release of his latest album, B.O.D.R. (Bacc on Death Row).
With Snoop Dogg getting into the video game industry, he has also been one of the most marketable rappers ever. Snoop has either advertised or invested in companies such as Petco, BIC, Skechers, Ice Cream by Dr.Bombay, and more.
Lil Yachty Says Streamers Trounce Rappers
Snoop Dogg’s entry into the gaming and streaming world reflects a larger trend. In October, Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty sparked a conversation by suggesting that YouTubers and streamers earn more than traditional rappers, leading to an increased interest among artists to explore gaming and streaming as alternative revenue streams.
