DL Hughley’s Daughter Calls Out Mo’Nique
Monique had lots to say about DL Hughley during her comedy set last weekend. DL Hughley clapped back at the comments which later caused families to get involved. Though the dispute between the two comedians transpired on stage, with Mo calling out DL Hughley for a contract dispute, the “Precious” comedian took it a step further by dragging the comedian’s family into the feud. Both D.L Hughley and Mo’Nique’s families expressed their outrage at the situation.
DL’s eldest daughter, Ryan Nicole took to Instagram to call out Mo’Nique for her disrespectful comments towards her mother, after Mo angrily said “how can DL’s wife suck the d**k of a coward” during her comedy set. Ryan wrote:
“Hi @therealmoworldwide I’m Ryan Nicole Shepard (D.L. Hughlet and LaDonna Hughley’s eldest daughter). You’ve now publicly disrespected my mother- who I love and care for very much – and my baby sister – who I love and care for very much to get back at my father – who I love, respect and care for very much. At this point, I feel like you are asking my family and myself to act out of character. Out of all this you could have legitimately said about my dad, if that’s the route you wanted to take, you chose to be deliberately mean and hurtful to two black women who have nothing to do with this conversation.”
Ryan didn’t stop there, she went out to call out Mo and her character of having “little mental stability, dignity, morality, and respect for herself and other black women,” stating that Mo’Nique is “adding to the historic and systematic disrespect and trauma of other black women who she claims to love for a check.” She continued:
“Using my mama and my sister to show people my father’s character. You’re clearly yeo crayons short of the full box sis. You’re disgusting and you absolutely need to keep every single member of MY family’s name out your poisonous mouth if you would like to have this conversation in person I would happily give you my address.”
Before the Baltimore comedian took to Instagram to respond to Ryan, she trolled D.L. with a video in which he expressed his feelings of guilt after not believing his youngest daughter was sexually assaulted. Mo’Nique wrote:
“When I said ‘how can DL’s wife suck the d**k of a coward’, this is what I meant. When my husband & I say we have to fight for the little girls coming up behind us & u see DL didn’t believe his own daughter over a friend, because he seemingly likes his friend more than he LOVED HIS OWN DAUGHTER & didn’t want to be bothered by the inconvenient truth. This highlights why the BLACK WOMEN isn’t believed when she publicly speaks about her trauma. What does the BLACK WOMEN & his (DL’s ) BLACK WIFE have coming.”
After setting the record straight, Mo’Nique accepted Ryan’s offer of speaking in person about the feud.
“Hey young sister THANK YOU FOR THE INVITATION FOR A DISCUSSION. WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE YOU UP ON IT. BECAUSE IT COULD BE VERY HEALING FOR OUR COMMUNITY. SET UP A TIME FOR YOU, & YOUR FAMILY & MY HUSBAND & I TO COME ON HIS SHOW & WE WILL GO FROM THERE. I LOVE US 4REAL.”
Mo’Nique Places Blame On DL Hughley For Contract Dispute
This all started when Mo’Nique greeted fans at the Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan, during Memorial weekend. Though excited to be in front of an audience, the Baltimore comedian explained the struggles she faced before she stepped on the stage. In a joking manner, Mo describes how she gained the strength to deal with the backlash she received from male comedians in the industry.
“Let me let the s**t go and give it to god, and he gave it right back, he told me I gave you everything you need to deal with these goons, Steve Harvey, DL Hughley!”
It was clear Mo’Nique was ready to tell it all. She explained that the contract she received before agreeing to do the show did not reflect what was told to her the night of the show. Mo said:
“I’m gonna tell you. See I f*** with contracts, that’s why n***a’s got a problem with me, if you sign the contract that’s what the fuck it is. If my energy is a little different it’s because they got me f*** up! So the contract said that the B** is the headliner, Mo’nique is to be the last person on the got damn stage, she is the headliner. That is what I signed up for. I’m 30 plus years in this mother f** business and I don’t open up for no Mother f*** body!”
Mo’Nique placed blame on comedian DL Hughley for her contract dispute. She told fans the relationship the two comedians shared in the past was gone after DL refused to perform if Mo’nique was to be the headliner of the show.
“The contract said the headliner, but a nigga by the name of DL Hughley turned into a bitch and said I won’t perform if she does that, Nigga you opened for this Kings of Comedy I closed for the Queens of comedy! We have a history, you came to my home, I don’t get down like that, you fucked with the wrong one!”
D.L Hughley Claps Back At Mo’Nique
D.L. had time to set the record straight before taking to Instagram with the receipts of his own paperwork that he says showed who was indeed the show’s headliner. He provided a lengthy post calling Mo’Nique out on other problems she has had in the industry.
“All you have to do is check the order of names on the ticket stub from last night and you’ll see who’s confused. Against my better judgment, over the objections of my team and 4 other occasions where I said NO, I decided to take a chance and work with Monique. Oprah was the problem, Tyler Perry was the problem, Charlemagne was the problem, Steve Harvey was the problem, Lee Daniels was the problem.. Now it’s My turn.”
Both comedians went on to post their contracts, and fans speculate both Mo’Nique and DL Hughley were listed as headliners on each of their contracts. The question remained whether the beef should be between the comedy giants or the show’s promoters.
The Drama Continues Between Mo’Nique And DL
As both Comedians went back and forth on Instagram, DL Hughley broke down his conflict with Mo’Nique in a recent interview. He claimed that he was willing to work with Mo’nique despite warnings from others in the industry. He says he later regretted it.
“I only work where I want to work and who I want to work with. After talking to alot of people, it would be wrong to not give someone a chance that has never done anything to you. So I decided i would do it, and now i know what Tyler Perry knows, I know what Oprah knows, I know what Steve Harvey knows, I know what Lee Daniel knows, I know what Charlemagne Tha God knows, that saying “yes” to Mo’nique is an occupational hazard, you tried to turn that audience against me, you tried to burn everything down like you do all the time. In this business like any other, it’s not about what you have done, it’s what you do. It is my fault I have learned my lesson.”
Concluding his interview, DL claimed Mo’nique “besieged her problems” to the audience, trying to avoid their problems and the current events going on in the world with the mass shootings in Buffalo and Texas. He then called Mo the queen of ashes – not the queen of comedy.
Mo’Nique took to Instagram with her husband to shut the feud down. Claiming the promoters played a significant part in the conflict between the two and offered to let DL headline the show instead.
“The first thing I said on stage was the promoter was raggedy, but yall skipped over that. I like to get down with the black promoters because I know how hard it is. Don’t take this man’s word, do your homework.” Her husband chimed in, “When we began to see that this was a problem, Mo’Nique said “Let DL do his thing, give it to him if he got a problem with me.”
While many fans believe Mo’Nique is going through her typical problems throughout the industry, many are standing behind her in hopes it can all be resolved with a simple conversation between the two comedians and their families.
50 Cent Brokers Reunion Between Mo’Nique And Lee Daniels After 13-Year Feud
Mo’Nique’s conflicts with many entertainers throughout the industry is nothing new. She recently ended a 13-year feud with director Lee Daniels rooted in her refusal to promote the 2009 movie “Precious”. Mo’Nique won an Oscar for the role but was shunned throughout Hollywood after Lee Daniels questioned her work ethic and behavior.
