Superstar rappers Drake and 21 Savage have settled their lawsuit involving a fake Vogue magazine cover during the rollout of their collaboration album, Her Loss.
According to a BBC News report, both rappers agreed to pay Vogue’s parent company, Conde Nast, but the amount hasn’t been revealed. Conde Nast reportedly asks the rappers for $4 million in the lawsuit.
The rollout for Her Loss was busy and expensive, including the rappers partying at a nightclub in Miami and purchasing Chanel bags for strippers. The case involving the fake cover and lawsuit is one of the examples of someone responding to Drake, like subliminal disses on the album.
One such diss on the album included allegedly dissing Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s case against rapper/singer Tory Lanez in the song “Circo Loco.” A lawyer for Drake and 21 Savage declined to comment.
“It was clear to us that Drake and 21 Savage leveraged Vogue’s reputation for their own commercial purposes,” a memo sent to Vogue employees read.
Last November, a judge previously denied the fake cover to be used in the lawsuit.
Judge Prevents Drake & 21 Savage From Promoting “Her Loss” Album With False Vogue Cover
A Manhattan judge recently shut down Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss joint album promotion. The two artists are now blocked from using false Vogue covers to promote their new album.
After being sued by Vogue Magazine, Drake and 21 Savage are now blocked from using the false magazine cover to promote their new album. On Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff issued a temporary restraining order in favor of Vogue publisher Conde Nast.
In honor of the order, Drizzy and 21 must cease the distribution of fake magazine covers from social media or posters plastered on streets and buildings. The duo was also asked not to mention editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in any “likeness.” The hearing continued on November 22, 2022, to resolve the $4 million in damages the publishers seek from the rappers.
Drake + 21 Savage Face Vogue Lawsuit Over Fake Promo For New Album “Her Loss”
Not even a week since Drake and 21 Savage’s joint album was released, the pair is already facing a legal battle. To promote Her Loss, the two staged a fake Vogue cover which eventually led them to court.
An Unexpected Lawsuit
According to TMZ, Drake and 21 Savage have been sued for falsely promoting an issue of Vogue magazine for their new album. Drake’s team says they are surprised by the lawsuit since they also faked promotions for Tiny Desk, Howard Stern, SNL, etc., and didn’t receive any backlash.
In fact, the Honestly, Nevermind artist sent a big shout-out to their editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, for the cover, which, it turned out, she had nothing to do with it.
“Me and my brother on news stands tomorrow,” said Drake in the Instagram post, adding, “Thanks @voguemagazine and Anna Wintour for the love and support on this historic moment.”
Vogue’s owner says they asked for the fake cover to be taken down, but nothing has been done. Documents obtained by TMZ say the rappers promoted the cover with posters in major cities.
The company wants at least $4 million in damages.
Drake + 21’s Other Faux Performances
The duo also performed their track “Privileged Rappers” on their “own version” of the popular YouTube channel, COLORS. As the clip plays, fans can see Drake rapping in a trench coat while 21 Savage accompanied in a sleek black Louis Vuitton tracksuit.
Drake and 21 Savage also tricked fans with a faux Saturday Night Live appearance. They performed “On BS” and were introduced by actor Michael B. Jordan.
During Michael’s intro, he called the album “one of the most relatable albums of all time” after his public breakup with model Lori Harvey.
Drake + 21 Savage Fool Fans With Staged Appearance On NPR’s Tiny Desk Ahead Of “Her Loss” Release
Drake and 21 Savage staged a Tiny Desk appearance, and fans quickly fell for it. The lighthearted prank came shortly before the release of their highly-anticipated album, Her Loss.
Recently, Toronto’s top rapper Drake collaborated with 21 Savage in an Instagram post to promote their NPR Tiny Desk performance, which later turned out to be staged. The believable video post includes a caption that reads:
“Thank you to @nprmusic @tinydesk for having the gang @21savage let’s go crazy.”
The two are seated with two band members on a studio set mimicking Tiny Desk.
Fans raved in support of the performance. However, the twist in this storyline is that NPR admits that the promotion is non-existent but offers the two rappers a real invitation to perform.
Fans believe Drake and 21’s playful posts were promotional tactics for their now-released studio album, Her Loss.
The two also staged a false interview on the Howard Stern show where the “Sticky” rapper gets candid about his love life, adult film preferences, and more.
In fact, it’s said that all promotional tactics that lead up to the album’s release are false, including the cover of Vogue.
Drake + 21 Savage Grace Cover Of Vogue Ahead Of Album, “Her Loss”
Rappers rarely make the cover of Vogue Magazine, but Drake and 21 Savage appeared to be writing their own rules. The two chart-topping artists fake-graced the cover of the latest issue ahead of their upcoming joint album, Her Loss.
The Toronto rapper shared the cover on his Instagram page and thanked Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour. “Thank you, Anna Wintour, for the love and support on this historic moment, the record-breaking rapper said.
On the cover, both rappers are dressed in all-black, as Drake looks at the camera while 21 Savage covers his face with one hand. In addition, the collaborative rap duo’s album Her Loss dropped on November 4 after it was pushed back from October 28.
21 Savage Surprises Morehouse And Spelman Students By Bringing Out Drake For Homecoming Concert
In other Drake and 21 news, the two rappers recently gave Spelman and Morehouse students a concert to remember as the “A Lot” rapper surprised them with the Toronto artist.
21 Savage brought out Drake as his special guest, and students from both universities saw the star rappers for only $45.
