Amazon Music is paying tribute to Queen Latifah with a short film called Generational Queens. The film will honor Latifah for her 1993 women’s empowerment anthem, “U.N.I.T.Y.,” which turns 30 this year.

Generational Queens dropped on March 30 and featured an all-Black female cast centering around Latifah’s “U.N.I.T.Y.,” which is labeled as a respect-demanding feminist anthem. The iconic song turns 30 this year.
The film also captures the journey of music discovery and shows that hip-hop fandom starts at home.
Amazon Music’s “50 & Forever”
Amazon Music’s honor of Latifah is part of their tribute to hip-hop’s 50th-anniversary called “50 & Forever,” which features live streams of hip-hop-related events and playlists.
The live streams will include R&B legend Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman’s Festival and Summit from May 12-13 and Dreamville Fest, which will take place from April 1-2.
Amazon Music will also host a “50 & Forever” exhibit at the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, N.C.
“50 & Forever” also provides a highly curated playlist of rap music called “Rap Rotation Rewind in DJ Mode,” featuring former 106 & Park host Free Marie.
Other tributes for the 50th anniversary of hip-hop are happening all year. The Roots’ Black Thought wrote a love letter to hip-hop and Brooklyn rapper Lola Brooke being featured in a new Timberland campaign of their iconic boot to celebrate its role in hip-hop’s fashion history.
Many films have also been inspired by hip-hop, such as Belly and Hustle & Flow.
In February, a star-studded performance was held at the 2023 Grammys to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. It featured performances from legendary rappers such as LL Cool J, Ice-T, Method Man, The Lox, Public Enemy, and more.
