This Thursday (December 12) marked the annual TDE Christmas event, held at the same housing project in Watts, Los Angeles that label founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and rapper Jay Rock grew up in. Kendrick Lamar isn’t signed to TDE any more but he showed his support on the day, popping up to perform a couple of songs: “Humble” and “Squabble Up.” The latter appears on Lamar’s new album GNX and marks the first time he has performed the song live.

Elsewhere on the bill were TDE artists including SZA, who will support Lamar on tour next year, and Doechii. SZA didn’t say anything about the new project she has coming later this month, but she did lead the crowd in a rousing rendition of “Snooze.” Doechii, meanwhile, continued to show why she has become one of the year’s most electrifying live performers.

The two-day celebration supports the Nickerson Gardens Housing Projects in Watts. Tickets to the event were free, with concertgoers only asked to bring an unwrapped gift for entry. On Friday, TDE will host activities for the family and a job fair.
