Barely a fortnight after the highly sought-after vinyl release of Tracy Denim, London trio bar italia announce The Twits, their second full length album in six months for Matador Records.
Out on 3rd November, The Twits was recorded over eight weeks from February 2023 in a makeshift home studio in Mallorca. Mixed by renowned Italian producer Marta Salogni (Black Midi, Bjork, Animal Collective, Romy to name a few) The Twits “finds bar italia’s economical yet evocative songcraft taking raucous, mystic, unkempt, occasionally sinister, and wholly committed turns”.
Lead single ‘my little tony’ is a cool taster of things to come. Buzzing darkly with the distortions of excess and insecurity, snide vocals are chewed and spat out, swept up by agitated guitars and stormy beats. Filmed at a house party, the accompanying video, below, dials up the tension of the track, exposing the superficial as it hones in on the micro-expressions and tells of its guests.
bar italia continue their busy 2023 schedule with a UK and European tour through September-November, including Mutations Festival, Brighton 2 November and a sold-out London headline at Village Underground on November 7th. They return to the US in December for their first full North American tour, including a sold-out Bowery Ballroom in New York on December 4th. They’ve also just announced a May 2024 London headline at Electric Brixton.
