NEWS: Baby Queen ushers in a new era with ‘Dream Girl,’ the first single from her upcoming album

Gen Z’s favourite anti-hero Baby Queen is entering a new era with the release of her latest single ‘Dream Girl’  via Polydor Records. ‘Dream Girl’‘  is the first single to be released from her highly anticipated forthcoming album and comes with a video directed by Claryn Chong.

Having spent the best part of the 2020s taking over London’s anarchic anti-pop scene, with songs reflecting a generation falling out of love with social media, Baby Queen became the scene’s reigning star. Now, the London-based Durban artist is discovering a more grounded and introspective side of herself, leading to the creation of some of the most open and affecting music of her life.

Blending her pop hook tendencies with the punkish aggression she’s made her own, her new single ‘Dream Girl’ is the perfect, compromise-free meeting of these two sides of herself. An achingly honest song, it chronicles a kind of unrequited love she felt for a woman who was in a relationship with a man, leaving her lovelorn and pining for someone out of reach. At the time, she didn’t feel ready to release it.

“I actually had, like, heart palpitations over it,” said Baby Queen, “When I first started making music, I was like, ‘No one can know that I’m bisexual. I have to keep it a secret.’ Now, “I just don’t give a fuck anymore.”

Baby Queen’s fans include Courtney Love and Olivia Rodrigo, who she supported on the European and UK-leg of her ‘SOUR’ world and even ‘Heartstopper’ book writer Alice Oseman who told Baby Queen that her music captured the essence of the series, inspiring her to write the original track ‘Colours of You’ which was used in the trailer of the Netflix’s global hits LGBTQ+ drama, returning to screens this August.
