Pre-COVID, guitarist Dave Harrington and drummer Kenny Wollesen were frequent performers at Nublu, the East Village club owned by saxophonist Ilhan Ersahin. In 2019, the trio spent the night jamming in a Brooklyn studio. Harrington packed up the files when he relocated to LA, where he tweaked and augmented them into Invite Your Eye (Nublu), a loose-limbed and inventively textured album partially inspired by director Robert Altman’s 1973 neo-noir masterpiece The Long Goodbye. An endless summer sunset of pointillist MIDI guitar, beat-chasing drums, and quiet-storm horns, the result is a continually shifting, smoothly grooving abstraction that splits the difference between New York grit and sweet SoCal fantasias, and that’s OK with me.Please enjoy this full-length feature from Relix Magazine.
