R&B legends Brandy and Monica appeared on CBS Mornings today (June 24) to announce their first-ever co-headlining tour, 27 years after the release of their hit “The Boy Is Mine.”
In the interview, Monica called the tour a “musical marriage,” while Brandy said fans can look forward to shows packed with “nostalgia.” “Adding our catalogues together, just hearing our music intertwine – this is a dream come true. I can’t believe we’re here,” Brandy said.
The two singers also discussed the impact of media narratives on their reported feud, and their excitement to be moving forward. “It started as nothing and it really did turn into something,” said Monica. “There was a lot of confusion and conflict, and there were a lot of people around.”
When “The Boy Is Mine” was released in 1998, Brandy was 19 years old and Monica was just 17. The track was the best-selling song of the year, broke records as it topped charts for 13 consecutive weeks, and won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo in 1999. The duo came back into the spotlight last year when they appeared on a remix of Ariana Grande’s “The Boy is Mine.”
