Last night, Feb. 15, Maggie Rogers brought The Feral Joy Tour to New York’s Radio City Music Hall. During the Big Apple performance, the songstress invited local legend David Byrne on stage for an unannounced sit-in. During the collaboration, the duo delivered “Strange Overtones,” which initially appeared on Byrne’s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today album, co-written with Brian Eno.

The synergetic moment arrived after Rogers worked through a serving of original music from her latest album, Surrender, which dropped on July 29 via Capitol Records. Intertwined with newer numbers was material plucked off 2019’s Heard It in a Past and to the artist’s single, “Love You for a Long Time.” Before Byrne’s arrival, Rogers also welcomed special guest Del Water Gap to help on the night’s rendition of “New Song,” which was performed ahead of the headliner’s solo take on fan favorite, “Alaska.”

Next, Rogers addressed her audience, “Ladies and gentlemen, for one night only, please welcome David Byrne!” After the introduction, Byrne arrived on stage, assisting his host with a delivery of “Strange Overtones.” During the performance, the duo synchronously grooved while running through the catchy lyrics.

Last night’s performance was not the first time the duo has teamed up. Previously, Byrne appeared in Roger’s music video for the track “That’s Where I Belong,” off her sophomore release, making the Wednesday night sit-in a fitting choice, considering Roger’s current tour supports her most recent release.

Following Byrne’s departure from the stage, Roger’s continued her set with “Horses,” “Anywhere With You,” and “Lights On” before capping the main frame with “That’s Where I Am.” For the night’s encore, Rogers ran through “Fallingwater” before closing the show on “Different Kind of World.”

After last night’s concert in New York City, the musician will take an evening off the road before tomorrow’s sold-out appearance in Chicago.
