As they played a packed set on July 1 at the Peach Music Festival, My Morning Jacket covered of the iconic song by the Beatles, “The Ballad of John and Yoko.” The rendition was thought to have been a nod to Sean Lennon, who appeared earlier in the night while playing in Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade.
The Scranton, Pa.-based music festival hosted a variety of other headliners over the four-day weekend, including Goose, Ween and Tedeschi Trucks Band. The jubilee also saw artists like Mike Gordon, Ziggy Marley, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Lettuce, and many more perform as well.
“The Ballad of John and Yoko” served as My Morning Jacket’s fourth song of the night. Their set featured only one other cover: “Happy” by the Rolling Stones. The rest of their show highlighted songs spanning their 20-year-long performance history.
Lennon is currently joining Les Claypool on guitar for their “Summer of Green Tour,” where they play a full-album cover of Pink Floyd’s Animals at every show. On July 1, they played in the performance slot right before My Morning Jacket.
Their performance at The Peach Music Festival appearance is one of many for My Morning Jacket this year – as they are in the middle of their 2023 North American tour. Upcoming shows will continue through the end of July into August in multiple spots across the country before they begin their shows set for the fall.
