Athens, Ga. indie rock unit Futurebirds have announced their plans to host a first-time festival dubbed Highball. The Peach State natives will roll out the two-day event on Oct. 21 and 22 in Atlanta, where they will welcome an exciting lineup of musical acts. The inaugural occurrence will take place at the historic Pullman Yards.
The Futurebird-curated lineup presents a sweet combination of up-and-coming artists with the festival’s headliners. Apart from Futurebirds, Highball is set to feature sets courtesy of Band of Horses and The Head and the Heart, which are scheduled to headline on separate days. The lineup also includes Wednesday, Seratones, T. Hardy Morris, The Whigs reunion, S.G. Goodman and Hotel Fiction.
Guitarist and vocalist for Futurebirds, Carter King, highlighted the band’s personal connection to the handpicked artist lineup as well as their Georgia upbringing and its tie to the historic Pullman Yards railroad-tracked venue. “It’s a wild wild dream to have the chance to help curate a festival bill, full of some of our favorite bands and best friends, in our home state, not far from where a handful of us grew up and experienced live music for the first time,” King said. “It’s a full-circle experience, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity. The lineup is insane; the venue is gorgeous. I can’t wait to see y’all out there in October.”
Highball will occur just weeks after Futurebirds wrap a series of highly-anticipated tour dates, which concludes a two-night stand at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on Oct. 6 and 7. The band, in collaboration with Rival Entertainment, has been planning the festival for two years, causing a stir and elation impending the first-time event. “We couldn’t be more stoked to have the dopest lineup of any festival ever on the first dang try y’all,” the band wrote in its lineup announcement via Instagram. They concluded, “Seriously, a dream come true.”
Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 29 at noon EST at www.highball.live. Scroll down to view the band’s announcement via social media.
