On Jan. 19-22, DJ Logic and his group of talented and eclectic friends celebrated his third residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City. The three evenings saw the pioneer turntablist flow through improvised grooves, layered by the musical inclinations of DJ Logic’s expert core band and musical guests.
Over the course of his four-night eight-show residency, DJ Logic was joined by a core band comprised of Robert Sput Searight (Ghost-Note, Toto), Neal Evans (Soulive), and James Genus (SNL, Herbie Hancock). Special guests included John Popper (Blues Traveler), Paul Shaffer (David Letterman), avant-garde horn players James Carter & Casey Benjamin, the former of which played with Galactic at the Blue Note Jazz Club last night, guitar virtuoso Nir Felder and Lyrics Born.
“We did no actual songs, merely sketches of songs… largely inventing phrases and even lyrics in real-time and all of those gentlemen cohesed into a vibrant… swinging seething beautiful aspiration to some unseen earthen deity of a pocket,” said John Popper of the run.
Notably, DJ Logic has shared he will be taking some friends out for some special late-night shows after Goose in select markets, though details are yet to be announced.
