Yesterday, Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Cornfield announced her new album Could Have Done Anything will release on May 12 via Polyvinyl / Double Double Whammy. In celebration of the announcement Cornfield released a new single from the project titled “You and Me.”
Could Have Done Anything serves as the artist’s follow-up to her breakout LP Highs in the Minuses, which was released in 2021. Through the new offering, she explores all of life’s possibilities and the fleeting moments that musicians can turn into everlasting songs.
Over nine tracks, produced by Josh Kaufman, Cornfield gives a sense of coming together, and the two–who play every instrument on the album–create a feeling that is alive and holds the improvisational spirit of recording a record. Notably, Could Have Done Anything was tracked over just six days before Cornfield returned to Canada to mix and master the project.
“This album, to me, is about connection and possibility, acceptance and hope,” said Cornfield in a statement. “It feels especially meaningful to be releasing this music now, during this incredible and thrilling time of change in my life.”
The video for “You and Me” was animated by Ben Sloan and pairs perfectly with the tender, euphonious tone.
