Funk legend and Cincinnati mainstay, Bootsy Collins, will take the stage for his first live public performance since 2019 when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Baltimore Ravens during the Sunday Night Football halftime show on Jan. 15 on NBC. The artist has also dropped a new single, “The Ickey Shuffle,” listen now.
“The Ickey Shuffle,” was inspired by former Bengals running back Ickey Woods and is a tribute and unifying statement intended to encourage positive sportsmanship with an emphasis on funk and fun. Also released today is the track’s music video featuring Bootsy’s son, Ouiwey Collins, and special guests, the Cincinnati Bengals.
This Sunday, Collins will return to the stage for the first time in nearly three years. Initially, the musician had been scheduled to take the stage during the fateful Bengals v. Buffalo Bills game on Jan. 2, when Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field.
Collins was preparing to perform during the Jan. 2 halftime and commented on the situation in a press release, noting: “We was ready to funk it out with the Bengals Who-Dey Baby and something just wasn’t right, everything just went chaotic. I immediately started watching the monitor in my dressing room and seen that beautiful young man on the ground. Patti my wife immediately looked at me and I said Patti, God is trying to tell us that we all need to be On The One right now and she agreed. Bless that young man.”
