A week ahead of the release of his debut solo album, Following The Moon, the London-based artist Simon Bromide shares the second song to be taken from the forthcoming record. As we have come to expect from Bromide over the years, ‘The Skehans Song’ is another tender slice of melodic pop.
This song is a touching tribute to one of South East London’s longest running acoustic nights, The Easycome which is run by Andy Hankdog, a man who joined former Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones and Paul Cook to form The Professionals in 1979 and found further success with his band Hank Dogs in the late ‘90s, touring America with Joan Baez.
Hank has run The Easycome for many years now and the weekly event – held every Wednesday night – has played host to many great emerging acts in that time, including David Gray, Florence Welch, Shingai from the Noisettes, The Smoke Faeries, The Fat White Family and Goat Girl.
Speaking about ‘The Skehans Song’, Simon Bromide says “I think the idea for the song just appeared at the club one day when I started singing about some of the regulars…then the chords arrived and it felt like a fun idea to write a kind of list song about these characters that went down to watch and take part. Similarly when we came to record it we tried to capture the atmosphere of a sometimes noisy pub with this thing going on in the corner. The song features the ‘Easycome choir’ including mainman Hank, Scarlett Woolfe and Vincent Davies.” He goes on to explain “the video was shot not at ‘Skehans’, ironically, but at the Old Dispensary in nearby Camberwell.”
‘The Skehans Song’ will be available HERE digitally on the 3rd of December 2021.
Following The Moon will be released on vinyl and digitally on 10th of December 2021. It can be pre-ordered HERE and vinyl will be available via Cargo Records.
On the 10th of December, Simon Bromide performs for his Album Launch at The Old Dispensary (Camberwell SE5 0TF), along with Dirty Viv and Hankdog.
