Tricky Announces New Album ‘Different When It’s Silent’ and Shares Single ‘Out Of Place’

Tricky has announced details of his new album, Different When It’s Silent, set for release on 17 July 2026 via his own label, False Idols. This marks his 15th studio album and his first full-length project under his own name in six years, signaling a return to the raw, distinctive sonic language that first captivated audiences with his 1995 debut, Maxinquaye.

Following a premiere by Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6 Music, the album’s lead single, ‘Out Of Place,’ has been unveiled. The track serves as a powerful, stripped-back finale for the record, featuring a compelling vocal contrast between longtime collaborator Marta and Tricky’s own frayed, urgent delivery. Originally written for Marta’s own project, the song was reclaimed by Tricky to anchor the intensity of his new collection.

Different When It’s Silent arrives after a period of prolific experimentation. Since 2020’s Fall to Pieces, Tricky has explored various creative avenues, including the Lonely Guest project and the Fifteen Days collaboration with producer Mike Theis. However, the material for this new record demanded a return to his primary moniker. Tricky notes that while he initially viewed these songs as another side project, his manager, Alan McGee, recognized that they were unmistakably the work of a Tricky record.

Recorded between his home in France and sessions in Bristol, the album leans heavily into the community that has long supported his vision. The record features the soulful falsetto of Bristol singer Mitch Sanders, whose contributions provide a melodic counterpoint to the album’s skeletal blues, distorted guitars, and stark hip-hop rhythms. Across fourteen tracks, the album maintains a restless, experimental energy that has defined his three-decade career.

Reflecting on the process, Tricky remains as driven as ever: “I just love making music. I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to live this life and keep creating.”

In support of the release, Tricky has announced an extensive UK and European tour beginning this May. The run includes high-profile dates at London’s Troxy, Manchester’s Aviva Studios, and Bristol’s Beacon.
