Emerging from the rugged streets of Billings, Montana, Magic City Mafia is shaking up the underground rap scene with their raw, unapologetic sound. Comprised of MCM Malice (Mason Quest) and Takoda Guzman, the duo channels their gritty upbringings into music that’s unflinching in its portrayal of street life, addiction, and survival.
For MCM Malice, rap became a lifeline. Raised in the rough south side of Billings, he witnessed the destructive grip of gang violence, addiction, and loss. These painful experiences fueled his drive to create music that spoke truth to his reality. His lyrics—powerful, deeply personal, and emotionally charged—invite listeners into a world marked by hardship. Tracks like “Am I a Good Person” reveal Malice’s vulnerability, offering an honest exploration of the mental and emotional toll of gang life.
Takoda Guzman, similarly shaped by his environment, turned to the streets to find belonging after feeling disconnected from his adoptive family. Starting his rap journey at just 11 years old, Guzman honed his craft in the parking lots of McDonald’s before linking up with Malice to form Magic City Mafia. His street-smart lyricism, paired with Malice’s introspective storytelling, forms a unique dynamic that gives their music depth and authenticity.
Their releases, such as “Poppa Jigga” and “Asesino”, provide a gritty glimpse into Billings’ underground drill and gang culture. These tracks depict a world where violence, loyalty, and survival are daily realities. “Poppa Jigga” stands as a warning about the dangers of street life, while “Asesino” offers a blunt commentary on the south side’s struggles. Yet, it’s “Am I a Good Person” that truly sets Magic City Mafia apart, with Malice confronting the emotional scars of his past.
With their unapologetic approach and hard-hitting authenticity, Magic City Mafia is poised to make waves in the rap world, proving that Billings’ voice deserves to be heard.
