Hard-hitting nocturnal rock trio, Tigercub, are back with their new album, The Perfume Of Decay, set for release on 2nd June, via Loosegroove Records. The label was co-founded by Stone Gossard, legendary guitarist and songwriter for Pearl Jam, who has been a long-term champion of the band.
Speaking of the lead singer, Gossard said, “Jamie Hall is not only an incredible songwriter, singer, and fucking wicked guitarist, but he also has a deep understanding of art and music history. This guy dabbles in it all; visual arts, digital media, world history… Check out his radio show and experience his natural grace and cheeky humour. This band is generational, and Jamie’s a natural star. Loosegroove couldn’t be happier working with Tigercub.”
In The Perfume of Decay, frontman Jamie Hall draws the curtains shut and embraces a moody, melancholic sound that’s every bit as cinematic as Hollywood itself. It’s an album about counterpoint and opposites, stacked with songs that contrast overdriven guitars with whispered vocals, tight grooves with shoegazing swells of noise, and sonic experimentation with sharp songwriting. For a band that’s always dealt in drama and dynamics, The Perfume of Decay marks Tigercub’s third and strongest release to date.
To mark the announcement, the band have shared a powerful new single called ‘Play My Favourite Song’, combining effected, fuzz-laden guitar lines with a crushing rhythm section and hook-led vocal lines, the new single is a perfect introduction to the new record. Speaking of the single, Hall says, “I realised that without music I am alone, without sounds to occupy my brain intrusive thoughts begin to swirl and unease and sadness rises within me, so play my favourite song because silence makes me feel low.” Watch ‘Play my Favourite Song’ here:
The Perfume of Decay was recorded after an international tour that took Tigercub halfway around the world in promotion of their last album As Blue Indigo. The record peaked at Number 11 in the UK Independent Albums Chart while drawing international applause as one of the most electrifying rock releases in recent years with Kerrang! describing it as the “rebirth of a maverick rock ‘n’ roll poet.”
Speaking of the latest album Hall said,
“It’s all about opposites. Sweet-and-salty popcorn tends to taste better than regular popcorn, even though those are two opposing forces. I wanted to nail that concept with our heavy guitars, softer-sung vocals, Can-style grooves, and a bit of shoegaze. Counterpoints can come together and make a powerful connection. I’ve crossed the threshold from my 20s to my 30s, so I’m getting older, but I’m also entering my prime. This record is a reflection of that.”
This summer saw the band celebrating its signing to Loosegroove Records with show-stealing sets at the UK’s annual Reading and Leeds Festival as well as by joining Pearl Jam for their colossal two-night stand at London’s BST Hyde Park 2022 after touring with Royal Blood.
