With the shooting attack on Lil Tjay just days ago, the hip-hop community is showing their concern about his condition. The hashtag #wakeupliltjay began trending on Twitter after rumors circulated on social media that the Bronx rapper is comatose.
Lil Tjay was reportedly in stable condition just days after undergoing surgery. Born Tione Jayden Merritt, the 21-year-old rapper was shot multiple times during an attack in Edgewater, New Jersey.
Liz Rebein, Assistant Prosecutor of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, informed SOHH.com that neither the rapper’s family record nor record label have provided official information on his condition. However, “close friends” including social media influencer Parnia Porsche, who says Lil Tjay is her “bestfriend,” are saying he’s doing great. Porsche took to Instagram to post a throwback picture of the two, as she captions the photo: “F*ck Rumors. My Bestfriend Gucci Great.”
Meanwhile, Mohamad Konate, the main suspect in the shooting, is currently in the hospital in New York. No official update on their condition has been provided at this time.
Meanwhile, Jefferey Valdez and Antoine Boyd who were with the “In My Head” rapper during the shooting, have both been released subject to conditions.
Three Men Arrested For Lil Tjay Shooting
Just 24 hours after, three men involved in the attack were arrested and charged for the shooting. Prosecutor Mark Musella, who has been working on this case, recently announced the arrest of 27-year-old Mohamed Konate, 24-year-old Jeffery Valdez, and 23-year-old Antoine Boyd.
Konate is considered the main suspect in this case as he attempted to commit armed robbery against Lil TJay. He was later arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree armed robbery, and weapon charges.
Attacked Outside A Shopping Center
According to the report, Lil Tjay was one of the two victims shot at The Promenade shopping center in Edgewater, New Jersey. The “Calling My Phone” rapper was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Edgewater police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office were on the scene of the shooting around 7 a.m. Wednesday, investigating a red Dodge Durango with a bullet hole in the driver’s window. It has also been reported that police were also seen inspecting a blood-stained towel.
Prosecutor Mark Musella provided additional information regarding the attack:
“The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Edgewater Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred at 14 The Promenade, Edgewater, NJ on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. At approximately 12:08 a.m. on June 22, the Edgewater Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at that address. Responding officers found a 22-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers also responded to the Exxon Station located at 478 River Road, Edgewater, where they located another 22-year-old victim with a gunshot wound. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where they are being treated.”
Ludacris’ Longtime Manager Reportedly Shot In Atlanta
The increase in gun-related violence is taking a toll on the hip-hop community. This past Sunday, Ludacris’ longtime manager and co-CEO of Disturbing Tha Peace Records, Chaka Zulu, was reportedly among three victims shot in Buckhead, Atlanta. Atlanta police stated that the shooting resulted from a heated argument in the PeachTree Hills shopping center parking lot. A search for the suspect has already commenced.
