Destroyer has returned with a new single ‘Eat The Wine, Drink the Bread’, the second single from new album LABYRINTHITIS, out 25th March via Bella Union. The new single is the follow up to lead single ‘Tintoretto, It’s For You’. In addition, they have also announced an extensive run of UK and European tour dates throughout the Summer and Autumn.
The project name of the solo material from The New Pornographers member Dan Bejar, Destroyer have been producing a myriad of different sounds and guises since the mid ’90s. The irreverent and complex new single ‘Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread’ postively gallops along, coming at you with a gorgeous and sombre piano loop and stabs of percussion and programmed drums; the bass rumbles with a funk intensity and a guitar line enters and gives it an irresistible groove. Take a listen below.
Seemingly as the world did the same, LABYRINTHITIS wades through unfamiliar territory for Bejar. Written during the early stages of the Pandemic and recording during it’s second wave, the album most often finds Bejar and frequent collaberator John Collins producing a much fuller proposition than previous minimalistic efforts – with disco, Art of Noise and New Order major sources of inspiration for it’s multi-layered sound.
Destroyer hit the UK and Ireland in October as part of a full European tour, Dates are:
11th October – Button Factory, Dublin
12th October – Drygate, Glasgow
13th October – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
14th October – EARTH, London
